What's thermostatic shower system?
A thermostatic shower system is a high-end bathroom shower system that automatically adjusts water temperature. Unlike traditional manual hot and cold mixers, it features a built-in thermostatic cartridge, which automatically maintains a constant water temperature despite fluctuations in hot and cold water pressure or flow, preventing hot and cold water fluctuations.
A thermostatic system typically includes:
A thermostatic system typically includes:
- Thermostatic mixer
- Shower Head
- Hand shower
- Shower rail with slider
- Shower Hose & wall elbow
This type of shower set not only enhances bathing comfort but also represents the trend toward smart and safe modern bathrooms.
How thermostatic mixer work?
The core of a thermostatic shower is the thermostatic cartridge, which houses a temperature-sensing element (usually paraffin or a metal sensor) that reacts quickly to changes in water temperature.
- When the hot water temperature is too high, the cartridge automatically reduces the hot water flow rate.
- When the cold water pressure decreases, the cartridge quickly closes the hot water port to prevent burns.
- The user-set temperature (e.g., 38°C) is stabilized within seconds.
This structure ensures the triple guarantee of "constant temperature, rapid response, and safety and reliability."
Installation and Usage Recommendations
Thermostatic shower systems come in two configurations:
1. Concealed Thermostatic Mixer
-
The shower mixer or shower valve is recessed into the wall, with only the panel and control knobs of the thermostatic mixer visible on the outside.
-
The concealed shower system is visually simple and space-saving as it does not have a big shower rail exposed. Therefore, it's suitable for modern bathroom styles.
-
Before installation, carefully check hot and cold water pipes are correct and the wall depth.
2. Exposed Thermostatic Mixer
-
Exposed thermostatic mixer needs to install the two inlet thread on the hot and cold water supply thread. It is easy to install and maintain.
-
Commonly used in renovations or when replacing old shower system.
Installation Tips:
-
Do not reverse the hot and cold water connections (hot water supply on the left, cold water supply on the right).
-
The in-wall water supply pipe must be spaced to a standard distance (usually 150mm ± 15mm).
-
After installation, check that the thermostatic mixer is working properly.
